One of New England’s more enjoyable seasons has finally arrived. As leaves begin to change colors, and people return back to school, our sense of time and attitudes suddenly change. With summer’s ending, it is time to face new weather, and a different change of pace. A new beginning of a beautiful season should start with cleaning out the old; as they say, “out with the old and in with the new”. This goes with saying, it’s time to freshen up our living and work spaces. A clean space gives us clarity and allows us to stay organized. While at work, an employee needs to remain focused on their tasks at hand. Productivity can be impacted negatively if one is distracted by a dirty workspace. Allow creativity and quality flow without interruptions due to your facility’s cleanliness.
A simple way to remember the importance of a thorough cleaning is to memorize the (4) D’s: De-clutter, Dust, Disinfect & Deodorize. Follow Apple Corps’ office cleaning checklist to get your work facility spruced up for the fall season.
[ ] 1. De-clutter…Everything. Yes, this will take time and a lot of effort. Starting off by clearing off surfaces, and disposing unwanted paperwork makes it easier to perform a thorough clean. To really remove ALL dust, dirt, crumbs, hair, dead skin, allergens, etc. (you get the idea), make surfaces completely bare. Some pieces of office furniture you might want to consider doing this to are desks, bookshelves, kitchenettes, windowsills, and many more. Throw away paperwork you don’t need. Donate office items you don’t use. This will save you a ton of space!
[ ] 2. Dust When you begin dusting, remember to always dust HIGH to LOW. Although you might be using a dusting tool that attracts and collects dusts, there will still be pieces of dust that float down to lower grounds. Make your job easier by starting the dusting process with the ceiling, walls, fans, vents, etc. Work your way down and hit all surfaces with an extendable feather dusting wand. Try a microfiber cleaning cloth to polish off more delicate surfaces like computer desks, keyboards, printers, and other electronics.
[ ] 3. Disinfect Wipe clean all objects in your office. Heavily handled and touched objects possess more germs and bacteria. These items include light switches, door handles, telephones, and many more. Disinfect surfaces to avoid sickness from spreading in your work facility. A disinfectant and rag is sufficient for cleaning. Also, disinfecting wipes are a good tool for sanitizing your office’s surfaces.
[ ] 4. Deodorize Have your office carpets professionally cleaned and deodorized. Carpets endure foot traffic, spills, and stains. Cleaning and deodorizing your carpets will extract dirt and spots from its surfaces. Protect the lifespan of your facility’s carpets by having them cleaned and deodorized on a regular basis.
