With 40 years experience providing office cleaning services in the Boston area, our team is used to working a lot of nights. The majority of janitorial services are performed when offices, medical office buildings, schools and other businesses are closed for the evening. This makes sense, as it allows the work of cleaning to be done without employees ever knowing the job is being done.
But a recent study, conducted by the Cleaning Coalition of America – an industry trade group representing seven of the largest commercial cleaning companies in the country – found that given the events of the COVID pandemic, almost half of all employees are nervous about the return to in-person work.
The Impact of Seeing the Cleaning Crew: Overall Positive
What can help them feel better about the change? 62% reported seeing the cleaners at their workplace makes them feel safer. Having skilled professionals on site cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting surfaces can help alleviate the anxiety that comes with serving the public – especially the public who comes into the facility coughing, sneezing, and actively spreading germs.
Not included in the research but also important to consider: the impact seeing the office cleaning crew will have on a business’ customers. Employees who are anxious about COVID also realistically have no other option than to continue to go to work; even so, the research found that 38.8% would consider quitting if the facility was not kept clean enough. Customers who don’t feel safe within a facility can choose to leave and never come back. What would the impact on your bottom line be if 4 out of every 10 customers chose to go somewhere else?
